The King Has Arrived: P2P Snacks - Issue #6
What. A. Week. Previously I’d packed two icons during my entire FIFA career. The first was Gary Neville back in the day of Legends and Baresi three years ago. Both were post-TOTY and felt entirely pointless. This year, I packed my third and feel like I packed him one FIFA cycle too late (he’s not as dominant feeling as he’s previously been). He is currently selling for 800k. That is amazing because I’d frankly rather have a host of other players instead. Regardless, welcome to the SnackSquad, (untradeable) baby Dalglish.
While I will complain about him, what’s super odd is that statistically, he’s a top performer for me. I find limited joy in having him in my squad, but he feels like a “must use” player and opens up a host of coins to use elsewhere.
Those of you that have followed me for years will know that I have two schools of thought on how to build squads and tactics for FIFA. You can either:
Pick some players that you love IRL and build squads and tactics to get the most out of them.
Pick a system that you enjoy playing in FIFA and find players that are well suited to play that style.
Since I’ve packed King Kenny, I will choose the first path.
So formations. I’ve tried A LOT of them. When I first packed him, I was playing 4231(2), but Kenny does not thrive in a solo striker role, so I moved him to a role as a second ST/CAM. He’s better there but didn’t quite have the passing ability I was looking for. You guessed it. 2 ST formations were next. I ultimately landed on the 4222, which is VERY balanced this year (it does fairly well against the 5122 too). Even still, I did not love him as an ST in a 2 ST set, so I swapped Dybala up top and moved Kenny to LAM. Yes. Finally.
The only instruction I used for the majority of my matches was ‘get into the box’ and he started scoring more as a LAM than as an ST. The obvious question is, “Japes, what does the squad look like now?”
Things change quickly and I’m refraining from sharing a 4222 tactic here (I'll probably share some screenshots on Discord) as I don’t believe that is the direction I’ll go for my first WL. I have started playing a 41212 (2) and Kenny has transformed into a baller. He’s meant for that style, so that is the style I’ll move forward with.
Don’t worry. This isn’t your ordinary 41212 (2)...it plays like a 2-1-2-3-2. Here is the squad with tactics & instructions to follow:
Instructions (If I don’t call out a specific one, assume they are default):
LS: Drift Wide x Get in Behind
RS: Stay Central x Target Man
CAM: Stay Forward x Free Roam
CMs: Stay Back x Drift Wide
CDM: Cover Center x Deep Playmaker x Cut Passes x Stay Back
LB/RB: Join The Attack
This is an aggressive setup so you might have some questions like:
Are Trent & Andy fast enough? Yep. They also deliver insane crosses and passes inside to the STs.
What do you think of Kohler? Amazing. I can’t believe that he’s so “cheap”. He’s a 93-rated CB in game.
Why are you using XXX chem style? I’m still trying to decide which ones I like best. Don’t read too much into it.
Why slow build-up? Think of it less as slow build-up and think of it more as short quick passes. I have struggled with opponents easily reading passing lanes in higher divisions. This tactical setup means I have multiple passing options at all times and can still pass quickly up the pitch when the opportunity arises.
Why not use a different GK for chem? Ter Stegen is still pretty good on 1 chem and he’s untradeable. I’m sure I’ll eventually pack a GK that fits into the squad better.
That’s it for this week. I’ve refrained from talking about the “LENGTHY” acceleRATE style as I don’t think that is the most important. I’m more interested in players that have high Strength, Composure, & Attacking Positioning.
Feel free to hop into Discord to join the convo and ask any follow-up questions you might have.
Good luck out there!
